The future of surfing and indeed our entire planet relies on us all to take our environmental footprint seriously. Whilst most surfers are environmentalists and care about the ocean and the animals that live in it, unfortunately the surf industry and its technology is a decade behind. The vast majority of surfboards and bodyboards are made from polystyrene, a synthetic material that can take over 500 years to decompose. Their carbon footprint is large – most bodyboards are manufactured in Southern China and sent in shipping containers across the globe, only to snap after just a few uses due to their poor quality and end up in landfill or littering our beaches in summer.
We believe a companies performance should be measured by the impact that their operations have on the planet and its people, not just how much profit they make.We also believe the current ‘take, make, waste’ mindset needs to be ditched and be replaced by real circular economy principles.
In this regard, KROC is on a journey towards making its wave in the surf industry while impacting the environment as little as possible.
The core materials used to make a KROC board are eco-friendly. Firstly, our plywood is sourced from sustainably managed forests. Secondly, cork is naturally sustainable as it comes from bark meaning the trees aren’t cut down. Our cork is used to add flotation to the board, give comfort to the rider as its smooth surface does not rub and provides grip so that no nasty toxic wax is needed. Finally, our epoxy bio resin is renewable plant based and still provides great durability and strength to the board making it long-lasting.
Every KROC board is handmade with quality craftmanship in our workshop in Helston, Cornwall, powered by solar panels. We create our boards carefully so there is little waste however if there is any leftover wood or cork we use it to create new products such as coasters, table mats and wall mounted stands for KROC boards/ surfboards.
KROC boards are created with quality materials and craftmanship to be durable and last. However, please get in touch with us if your KROC board gets damaged. We will do our best to assist with repairs in order to maximize the boards life.
We are trying to do our bit for the planet so every board you purchase we are going to stick a tree in the ground for you. Each KROC board we sell plants at least one tree in Madagascar, Kenya or Haiti.
